Proposed Borough Wide Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) Public Consultation Survey
Overview
Rochdale Borough Council would like your views on the proposals to introduce a new borough wide Public Spaces Protection Order around the consumption of alcohol away from licenced premises and the antisocial use of mechanically propelled vehicles.
What are Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs)?
A Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) gives the Council powers to take action to reduce antisocial behaviour in defined public spaces.
The Council must be satisfied that behaviours specified in the PSPO has a detrimental effect or is likely to have a detrimental effect on the public space.
What are the proposed prohibitions?
- Consumption of alcohol in public areas, away from licensed premises.
It is proposed under the new PSPO that it will be an offence if anyone, when requested by an authorised officer, refuses to stop drinking alcohol in a public place away from licensed premises and hand over any opened container of alcohol.
- Mechanically propelled vehicles
It is proposed under the new PSPO that mechanically propelled vehicles (MPVs) should not be used on any publically owned land in the borough, or on any other land without permission. These vehicles are commonly known as motocross bikes, pitbikes, quad bikes and mini-motos.
