Overview

The government’s spring budget pledged to reduce the cost of childcare for working families by offering funded early years childcare places for children aged 9 months to 3 years and also to increase wrap around provision for all school aged children.

We need your help to identify need and any gaps in childcare provision, please can you take a few minutes to fill in this survey. A brief summary of the extended entitlements from April 2024

From April 2024, eligible working parents in England with children aged 2 will have access to 15 hours childcare.

•From September 2024, the 15 hours childcare offer will be expanded to eligible working parents in England with children between 9 and 23 months old.

•From September 2025, eligible working parents in England with children between 9 months up to school age will have access to 30 hours childcare.

Eligible working families in England

  • Each parent earning under £100kper year and at least £167per week (equal to 16 hours at the National Minimum or Living Wage) will receive
    • 15 hours of childcare or early education for 38 weeks
    • A total of 570 hours per year, that you can use flexibly with one or more childcare providers
    • The funding starts from the academic term after your child reaches the eligible age.

Support is also expanding for primary-school aged children – from September 2024, parents are expected to see an expansion in the availability of childcare in their local area before and after school, between 8am and 6pm, also known as ‘wraparound care’.

Do you know about the existing government childcare support packages that parents can access?

Currently All children aged 3 years are eligible for 15 hours early years childcare for 38 weeks from the term after they turn 3 years old. Eligible working families receive 30 hours childcare.

For families in England receiving some forms of additional government support Help paying for childcare: Free education and childcare for 2-year-olds - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) can receive 15 hours childcare from the term after their 2nd birthday.
