Overview

Outline of Proposal

This proposal is to reduce the Sustainability grant available for Private, Voluntary and Independent childcare providers in the borough.

The Sustainability grant is a small grant allocated by Sure Start in order to support childcare providers who are experiencing a temporary challenge to their business sustainability. The purpose of the grant is to enable providers to stay in business where the supply of places is needed to meet the Council’s Duty under the Childcare Sufficiency Act.  Due to the quality of provision and the advice available locally, despite the current economic climate there has been limited demand on this budget over the past 2 financial years. The total budget for grants is £12,000 and we are proposing to reduce this to £6,000.

General Impact

Due to the quality of provision and the advice available locally, despite the current economic climate there has been limited demand on this budget over the past 2 financial years, we therefore do not envisage there will be any impact on providers.

Impact on Service Users

We do not envisage that there will be any impact on service users.

The indicative saving for this proposal is £6,000.

We have undertaken an Equality Impact Assessment to identify likely or actual effects on people with protected characteristics. The Equality Impact Assessment will be reviewed and updated as required, taking account of consultation feedback.
