Opened 3 May 2019

Overview

Rochdale Council is now consulting on a proposal to provide additional SEN primary school places at Shawclough Community Primary School in a new resourced provision with effect from September 2019.

Why your views matter

The proposal is to open a new SEN resourced provision at Shawclough Community Primary. This will provide an additional 12 places for children with an EHCP for autism. The new resourced provision will be in a specially created additional teaching space with qualified staff and aim to support children in order for them to access elements of mainstream education at the school.

As part of the process of creating the SEND Action Plan (http://www.rochdale.gov.uk/pdf/2018-05-11-send-strategy-v1.pdf)

Rochdale stakeholder groups were consulted about the borough wide SEN services. One element identified was the need to improve autism provision, as detailed in the Autism Strategy document (https://search3.openobjects.com/mediamanager/rochdale/fsd/files/asc_strategy_1.pdf)

The total capacity of the resourced provision will be 12 places and the increase in places will mean that the total capacity of the school will rise to 432 overall.

Rochdale Borough Council will implement the proposal if Cabinet provides approval.
