Overview
Outline of Proposal
Changes to the way in which the Council manages its waste collection service and improve the Borough’s recycling performance. This will include;

Reducing the size of waste bins provided for residual waste

Roll out Food/Garden Waste collections to all properties in the Borough

Changing collection frequencies for food/garden waste

Improved efficiencies with the service and reduction in contamination
-
Increase in recycling performance resulting in financial savings
Communications/education campaign across the borough with bespoke area-directed campaigns and reward schemes such as the Right Stuff Right Bin award winning campaign and the Golden Ticket schools and community reward initiatives.
General Impact
A significant uptake in recycling resulting in reduced residual waste going to landfill and in turn a reduction in waste levy charges.
Impact on Service Users
A requirement for residents to more carefully manage their waste and in turn recycle more by moving the appropriate waste from the residual bins into the relevant recycling bin
Savings Total: £1,000,000 on-going saving in 2015/16
The Council is assessing the potential equality impact which the proposals may have and are undertaking full Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs) where this is appropriate.The EIAs are draft working documents which are to be developed over time.
This means that as further detail becomes available through the consultation process the EIAs will be updated and finalised before a final decision is reached.
