Description

Informal consultation on the expansion of Redwood School onto a new satellite site has been conducted with local stakeholders.  Cabinet on 21st January 2025 approved funding for the satellite school project to move forward to the formal consultation stage. (Rochdale Council’s Cabinet on the 21st January 2025 6.00pm (rochdale.gov.uk)(item 145).

Rochdale needs more specialist places for children with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and in particular needs more spaces for Secondary aged pupils. Redwood School currently teaches across five different sites. It has two SEN units within mainstream schools. It has two sixth form centres; one that runs employability and independence courses in Middleton and one that runs vocational courses in Heywood. Its main school is at Hudsons Walk in Rochdale.

The public notice and background documents for the proposed increase in school capacity of 64 pupils for Redwood School, Hudsons Walk, Rochdale, OL11 5EW by creation of a new satellite site in Middleton for September 2028, with agreement from the Governing Board, and School Leadership are attached on page 1.
